Timing chain kit (including chain, guide rail, tensioner, sprocket)
Torque wrench (range 10~150N·m)
Special locking tool (fix crankshaft/camshaft position)
Ratchet socket set (8mm~19mm)
Marker pen, crowbar (auxiliary alignment mark)
1. Safety pretreatment
Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, drain the coolant, and remove peripheral components such as fans and belts.
Note: The diesel high-pressure pump (if any) needs to be depressurized in advance.
2. Fix the engine timing position
Rotate the crankshaft to the top dead center (TDC) of cylinder 1 and confirm it through the flywheel marking hole.
Use the locking tool to fix the camshaft gear (to avoid valve interference caused by misalignment).
3. Remove the old chain assembly
Loosen the timing cover bolts (sequence: cross-loosening from outside to inside) and check the chain wear (replace if the stretch length > 3mm).
Before removing the tensioner, lock its piston with a pin (to prevent it from popping open).
4. Install the new chain kit
Align the new chain with the crankshaft/camshaft sprocket according to the original factory mark (align the colored chain links or grooves).
Key torque parameters:
Crankshaft sprocket bolts: 80~90N·m + 90° angle (thread glue is required)
Camshaft sprocket bolts: 60~70N·m
Timing cover bolts: 20~25N·m (cross-tighten in 2~3 times)
5. Tensioner activation and verification
Pull out the tensioner lock pin to automatically tighten the chain.
After manually rotating the crankshaft 2 turns, recheck whether the marks are aligned and confirm that there is no abnormal resistance.
Precautions
It is strictly forbidden to violently hit the sprocket to avoid timing errors caused by tooth skipping.
When starting for the first time after replacement, run the engine at idle speed for a short time to lubricate the chain system.
It is recommended to check the oil pump chain (a common wear part in the same kit) at the same time.
Q: How to determine the stretch of the D4cb timing chain?
A: Detect the chain sag (press the middle section displacement > 5mm) or read the camshaft phase deviation value through the diagnostic instrument.
