The timing chain drives the movement of the crankshaft and camshaft

The Timing Chain Kit consists of all the components needed to replace the timing chain in a car or light truck. This includes the chain, cam sprockets, tensioners and guides, as well as the variable valve timing actuators (also called cam phasers) for some applications. They are also 100% tested to ensure proper fitment, function and durability. This makes them an ideal replacement for worn-out and damaged components.
The timing chain drives the movement of the crankshaft and camshaft, ensuring the proper operation of the valve train. The chain consists of pins, rollers and bushings that are specially designed and engineered to withstand the forces generated by the running-in process. The chain is tensioned and guided by a system of gears, sprockets and chains, and the sprockets are often precision machined to reduce noise, improve timing accuracy, and resist corrosion. The sprockets are usually made of steel that has been heat treated or coated to improve durability. Plastic chain guides dampen vibration and harmonics for improved valvetrain performance.
Over time, the chain and gears begin to wear out, causing rattling, retarded valve timing, and a loss of power, fuel economy, and performance. A new chain and cam sprockets will restore the correct sequence of operations, take the slop out of the system, and provide improved performance. In addition, a fresh supply of the recommended lubricant will minimize wear of all components.
When the timing chain does wear, it is critical to diagnose and repair it promptly, since a failure while driving can lead to costly engine damage. Symptoms include a rattling sound when the engine starts or when turning the ignition, misfires, lumpy idling, and a check engine warning. In addition, a failed chain or gear can cause oil to leak onto the cylinder heads and burn up the engine.
Premium Timing Chain kits provide a complete repair solution with direct OE replacement parts for the ultimate in quality and performance. These kits include both standard and roller chains, as well as cam and crank sprockets that are optimized to match the application. All kits are offered with a choice of a high-grade chain that eliminates stretch, precision-machined sprockets, and durable, plastic chain guides.
An alternative to a timing chain is a gear drive. This setup is ideal for higher-revving applications and can eliminate the need for a chain drive, as well as reduce the chance of failure due to stretching or breakage. However, a gear drive can be noisy, and it may require additional modification for street or race use.
